Literature Text

Patience
A word or simple phrase, an ember,
With frustrating, obscured, stubborn smoking sparks…
Denouncing flames that scorch the skin…
Inevitable ferocious, brawling inferno, provincially destroying
without a thought as to the damage.
Searing the skin to despair…
Suffering the barren desert swelter…
Simmering in self reflection and realization…
Discerning the actions that damage…
Healing with the light of affection
Like the brilliant glow of dawn.
Misjudgment of the deceptive contentment…
Comprehension of the scalding unfaithfulness…
Capricious welling flares of blistering disdain…
Hatred scorching the tormented soul,
Spouting insuppressible hellfire like a loose cannon.
Extinguished in simple calming waters
Of fighting's own futileness.
Soothing sprinkles healing burned flesh…
Washing wounds in the achievement
Of the challenging reservation of emotion.
Rigorously buckling on the icy armor of resistance;
Tempered in the heat of experience.
Sometimes distance is needed
For the preservation of civilization.
Emotional reservation is demanding, patience.

By Amy Redfern
I wrote this in my creative writing class two years ago. This poem is to show how much patience costs someone and how hard it is to have sometimes.
